SPEET is not the destination. It is the bridge.

SPEET is built for the opposite outcome: to get you off your phone and into the same room as another person, quickly. Everything about it is shaped by that — the short chats, the emphasis on who is nearby and free now, the absence of anything to scroll.

There is no feed. There are no likes. If you are using SPEET well, you are barely using it at all.

Turn on availability and add a line about what you're up for — a coffee, a walk, someone to see the exhibition with. You are only visible while you choose to be.

Step two

See who's nearby

People close by who are also free, with the interests you have in common, or which appeal to you. No bios to decode, no profiles to rank — just who is actually around and actually open to it.

Step three

Meet, for real

A short chat to work out whether you want to. Then you close the app and go, which was the point the whole time.

Why it works differently

SPEET chats are deliberately short: Long enough to decide whether to meet, not long enough to become a substitute for meeting. When a real meeting could happen within the hour, people tend to be straighter with each other.
Interests instead of a written bio: Choose what genuinely fits you. A short bio is optional. What you are actually into says more than a paragraph written to impress strangers.
Profiles are simple, people are not: Your interests sketch the basics. After that, the picture fills in through badges earned from people you have actually met.
Badges you can only earn from people: After you have met, people can award each other badges. A profile grows out of how you were to spend time with, not how you describe yourself.
Nobody sees you unless you say so: Availability is a switch you control, with the range you choose. Off means invisible.

Meeting someone new should feel easy, not risky. SPEET is 18+, and the controls that matter are switches in your own settings rather than requests to a support queue. These are all live in the app today.

You control visibility

Choose your range, or switch off entirely. You can also hide your photo, age or gender while still appearing.

Block, immediately

Block anyone yourself, without waiting for anybody. They stop seeing you, you stop seeing them, and they are not told.

Report, and be answered

Report a safety concern from inside a chat. It reaches a person, not a form.

Verified users only

Verify your own account, then switch on Show verified users only and People Nearby shows nobody who has not done the same.

Same gender only

Switch on Show same gender only and People Nearby is limited to people of your own gender. Off by default, yours to set.

Free, and without advertising

SPEET is free to use and carries no advertising. Nothing you tell it is sold, and there is no feed to sell against.

Contributions from people who want to support it are welcome and entirely optional.

Questions

Is SPEET a dating app?: No. People use it to find someone for a coffee, a walk, an exhibition, a run, or just company. Something additional may come of it, but SPEET is not built around romance and does not work like a dating app.
Do I have to talk to anyone?: No. You are only visible while availability is on, and a chat only starts if you accept it.
Why are the chats time-limited?: Because unlimited chat quietly replaces meeting. The limit exists to keep the conversation pointed at a real meeting rather than becoming one.
Does it work if nobody near me uses it?: Honestly, not yet everywhere. SPEET depends on other people being nearby, so it works best where there is a cluster of users — which is why it is being introduced city by city and venue by venue rather than everywhere at once.
What does it cost?: Nothing. It is free to use and carries no ads.
